Most wine subscriptions price all twelve bottles the same. That means every bottle ends up in the same tier — usually to 2 retail — and you get twelve versions of perfectly fine.
We do it differently. Every Case by Case case includes one bottle that goes for 5 in a wine shop. The case itself starts at 59.99 a month if you subscribe. That means roughly 5 to 5 left to cover the other eleven bottles — around each.
Why anchor the whole case around one expensive bottle?
Because it changes what you get from the other eleven. When one bottle is carrying its weight at the premium end, the rest of the case does not have to. You get genuinely good everyday wines alongside one bottle you would normally save for a special occasion — except it shows up automatically, and you did not have to spend 5 to get it.
We can include that bottle because we buy directly from producers and importers. A wine shop pays significantly more for the same bottle than a merchant buying at that scale can. We put that difference into the case. You get a 5 bottle for the price of a subscription.
About the other eleven
These are Tuesday-night wines, not save-it-for-a-special-occasion wines. Reds, whites, the occasional rosé — from smaller producers in regions that make good wine without the name recognition that drives prices up. We taste through a lot of bottles to find them. Most do not make it.
None of them are fillers. If a bottle would not hold up on its own we do not put it in. The anchor bottle gets the attention, but the rest of the case is the reason people keep subscribing.
How to actually use a case like this
Open the 5 bottle on a night you would usually skip the good wine. Open the others during the week. You get twelve bottles so the math works out to about one a week — which is exactly the pace most people drink at without planning for it.
